Facial fat transfer restores and enhances facial volume with one’s own fat. It can also correct facial folds and wrinkles that develop during the normal aging process. Facial fat transfer is an excellent alternative to injectable products (such as Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Sculptra), as it can potentially last a lifetime.
Facial fat transfer targets several areas of the face that typically give away the signs of aging (sagging cheeks, jowls, eye bags). It restores a youthful facial contour by eliminating peaks and valleys that form during normal tissue descent.
In experienced hands, facial fat transfer is safe and leads to natural and lasting results. Dr. Mashkevich is a UCLA-trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, with the experience of performing fat transfer in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and New York. He specializes in minimally invasive facial volume augmentation, and utilizes fat as well as injectable products for this purpose.

Is computer imaging and simulation available for Fat Transfer?
Yes. During your consultation, we will take your photographs from different angles and use them to simulate how your face would look after any augmentation procedure. You will have an opportunity to provide feedback during this process. Your surgical plan will mirror the changes you desire and are comfortable with.
How is Fat Transfer Performed?
Fat transfer is typically performed under sedation with local anesthesia. Abdominal (belly) fat is harvested via several stab incisions around the belly button, which heal inconsequentially. The fat is processed and injected in multiple layers into facial tissues until adequate correction is achieved.
Special instrumentation and technique (multi-level transfer) is used to minimize trauma to the face and reduce bruising and swelling after the procedure.
What is the recovery like following facial Fat Transfer? When will I be able to return to Work?
With facial fat transfer, associated swelling and bruising subside within 7-10 days following surgery. We take special precautions during the procedure to minimize swelling and bruising, and ask you to use ice and apply special creams in the immediate few days that follow.
Most patients go home on the day of surgery, and are up and about within 24 hours.
Prior to your operation, we will provide you with a detailed set of instructions from our office, and will remain available 24-7 to answer any questions, should they arise.
What about pain after facial Fat Transfer?
During the surgery, you will not feel any pain due to anesthesia and sedation. After the operation, most patients experience only mild to moderate discomfort, and may require prescription pain medications in the first 24-72 hours. Regular Tylenol is typically taken after that time frame, on as needed basis.
