Depending on the complexity of your procedure, your nose job time can take anywhere from two to four hours. Revision surgery can push your nose job time to six or seven hours.
Plan to take about a week off from work, as for most patients the nose job time off from work lasts approximately 7-10 days.
Is Computer Imaging / Simulation Available for Rhinoplasty?
Yes. During your consultation, we will take your photographs from different angles and use them to simulate proposed changes to the shape of your nose. You will have an opportunity to provide feedback and help construct your “new nose” on the computer screen. You surgical plan will then be formulated to reflect the changes you desire and are comfortable with.
Does Insurance Cover the Cost of Rhinoplasty?
Yes, in select circumstances your medical insurance carrier may cover a portion of your rhinoplasty cost, depending on your breathing history and nasal examination. For instance, if you have trouble breathing due to previous nasal trauma, your insurance may cover the portion of your operation that addresses your nasal obstruction. Dr. Mashkevich has the necessary medical expertise to assess accurately if your rhinoplasty requires functional correction of breathing.
How is the Rhinoplasty Procedure Performed?
Depending on the complexity of your procedure, rhinoplasty may last anywhere from two to four hours. The skin of the nose is elevated after making cosmetic incisions on the inside of both nostrils. Next, the underlying bone and cartilage are altered to achieve the desired nasal shape. For example, if the tip of your nose is large, tip cartilage is reconfigured to reduce its size.
The skin is then laid back down over the bone and cartilage and all incisions are closed. A splint and tape may be applied to the outside of your nose in order to assist with healing. Occasionally, nasal stents and/or packing may be used inside the nose to further maintain stability.
What is the Recovery Like following Rhinoplasty? When will I be able to Return to Work?
Plan to take about a week off from work, as most patients return to their regular activities in approximately 7-10 days after a nose job. We take special precautions during surgery to minimize swelling and bruising, and ask you to use ice and special creams in the immediate few days that follow.
Most patients go home on the day of surgery, and are up and about within 24 hours. If packing is placed inside the nose during surgery, it is removed on the morning after. Nasal dressing, splints, and sutures are usually removed six or seven days after the surgery.
Prior to your operation, we will provide you with a detailed set of instructions from our office, and will remain available 24-7 to answer any questions, should they arise.
What about Pain after Rhinoplasty?
During the surgery, you will not feel any pain due to anesthesia and sedation. After the operation, most rhinoplasty patients experience a mild to moderate discomfort, and may require prescription pain medications in the first 24-72 hours. Regular Tylenol is typically taken after that time frame, on as needed basis.
